New at CS Gymnastics- Fitness Based Nursery School

This fall CS Gymnastics, of Flanders, announces a new concept in Pre-school programs for our area. At “Super-Tots Gym n’Learn” young champions will be participating in gymnastics, and receiving an education- Who could ask for more! This class is a fitness- based learning program that can help prevent childhood obesity with nutritional information and a 45-minute gymnastics class each session.  Your child will receive a well-rounded educational experience to help prepare them for school- socially, mentally, and physically.

With a Masters of Early Childhood Education, Lisa Regan will be directing this exciting new program. Lisa also brings with her, experience and knowledge as a gymnastics coach and mother of 5.  Cheryl Moormann, director of CS Gymnastics and also having a Physical Education degree from Montclair State, is thoroughly excited by the prospect of offering this new and innovative program to our communities’ finest youngsters.

In today’s day and age of less active children, the fitness portion of Super-Tots Gym n’ Learn is critical.  Gymnastics lessons include bars, beam, and tumbling on specialized preschool gymnastics equipment, the trampoline, the Tumbl-Trak, and they exercise to music.  The children use props to develop skills such as hand-eye coordinationm, foot-eye coordination, fine and gross motor skills, and rhythmic patterns that help with reading readiness.  According to author Glenn Dorman (“Teaching your baby to read”), the emphasis on laterality, directionality, and many gross motor skills learned in preschool gymnastics will help young children to read.

In addition to a vigorous 45 minute gymnastics workout, your preschooler will really enjoy the educational part of the “Super-Tots Gym n’ Learn”.  The use of stories and group activities are used to involve the children in the lessons.  The curriculum is part of the established preschool Gym n’ Learn program, and strongly recommended as a “kindergarten prep class, following the state standards for Kindergarten readiness.

“Super-Tots Gym n’ Learn” will start at CS Gymnastics this September as a two and one half hour program on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, and will add on to the schedule as the year progresses.
